Introduction

The Global Wind Organization (GWO) is an association of wind turbine owners and manufacturers with the aim of supporting an injury-free working environment in the wind power industry. GWO has developed a standard for basic safety training, Basic Safety Training. The purpose of this standard is to develop joint health and safety training as an important and necessary way forward to reduce the risks to personnel working outside in wind turbines. The standard was issued in February 2012 and in November of the same year Rope Access Safety Training AB became the first in Sweden to become GWO certified. Vestas, Siemens, Suzlon and Vattenfall are some of the companies that are behind the standard and that require that you have completed the training to gain access to their towers.
